Human Drano!

One day to unclog arteries, a lifestyle to clog them!

Now, they can unclog our arterties as easily as we can unclog a drain in the bathroom.

The question begs to be asked though, are we better off living a lifestyle that will easily clog our arteries and heading to the nearest Cardiologist to unclog them as needed--sort of a like preventative yearly rota-rooter visit for your home's pipes, OR should we live in a manner that is LESS LIKELY to clog them in the first place?

Heck, today you can eat food in excess until your body becomes morbidly obese and then head to the surgery center for a quick stomach stapling surgery or a Lap Band procedure. People opting for this don't have to do any of the tiresome and teadious "lifestyle changes" that accompany successful "old fashioned" weight loss, they just nip that stomach to the size of a thimble and commence eating broth and jello for weeks on end.--until they feel better and are able to head back to their vices and slowly pick up their old habits where they left off!

Patrick Deule is my favorite poster child for refusal to accept healthy living at all cost

Patrick Deuel and his dueling vices

Check out the CRAP on his desk!

After getting to 1000+ pounds, having major surgery to staple his stomach, he is still drinking soft drinks! and whatever else the array of food in front of him is. His wife only weighed 270 pounds and had her stomach stapled too! Hey, better that than give up their McDonals "fish sandwich, fries and shake" urges!

AND, get this, he wants to do motivational speaking and write a book! I sent him my material, let's hope he copies it word for word because I can't imagine ANY word he says that is going to help someone lose weight.

His motto is eat what you want, don't worry about whether or not it is healthy and if it gets out of control, have surgery. And, the real kicker, Oprah wants to have him on her show to share his story. WHAT story? that he is a glutton who refuses to change his ways and thanks to surgical intervention was able to shed some weight but still eats McDonalds when he wants to and won't apologize for having and fulfilling those cravings? Does that inspire you?

I would love to attend a bootcamp, it could help jumpstart another attempt at finally loosing weight. Although I amconsidering a lapband, The bootcamp would be an excellent compliment to working in a lifestyle change. I am having an incredible time trying to lose, so I am keeping all my options open.

The trip.....what I am thinking is to rent a huge beach house in NC,right on the beach. We will cook healthful meals and snacks--only have healthful foods in the house, we will workout a TON, live a very active life, biking, swimming, etc....motivational lectures, educational lectures.....spa services....

Everything other than airfare will be included for 6 nights/7 days and the cost would be $2000. I don't think you can get a vacation "all inclusive" at a spa for that, can you? tell me your thoughts

I could get super excited about a Spring break bootcamp...if the total cost isn't through the roof!

Your articles are so super, I would never take any advice from someone who had surgery to loose weight, a friend had the surgery done and has to have weekly vitamin shots, her body is now incapable of absorbing all the nutrients it needs, she is actually unhealthy, shes lost 100 lbs,Its hard to not eat something fattening, but not as hard as beeing unhealthy later in life when the cosequences of the surgery come along,I think everyone should quit whining and complaining about how hard it is to not have a doughnut or ice gream or whatever, all the while the food is destroying you life, your dreams and potential,I waisted so many years crying about food,it was hard , but so worth it, I dont think surgery is an easy way out in the long run, I lost 107 lbs 5 years ago and have kept it off by facing reality, like the turkey dinner, the calories will go on your rear or be burned off, thats just the way our bodies were made

Linda, I didn't see the show, wish that I would have. I have spoken with him personally. Prior to his surgery, he told me that he was a medical mystery that he ate like a bird and every morsel turned to fat. NOW, he comes clean with his horrible habits, refuses to change and his story is now being touted as an inspriational one and Oprah wants him on her show?! I used to long to get on Oprah and think that it would help me reach so many others and help them, now I realize that I am too honest, too common sense and too boring for TV. I simply offer the truth, and that isn't good for ratings!

Julia, When I read this entry, I thought perhaps you were being a bit harsh regarding Mr. Deuel. Then I watched that Discovery Channel show about him. I was appalled at his attitude, both before and after the surgery. And his wife - Yikes! She talked about how they were simply counting calories and when asked how many calories were in the breakfast she was cooking, she didn't have a clue. When asked why she had provided all the unhealthy foods for her husband prior to surgery, she hesitated - then Patrick said, "because there would be hell to pay" if he didn't get what he wanted. Wow, what kind of mind games does he play? He certainly couldn't have chased her down.

You're right - Mr. Deuel is NOT someone who should be "motivating" others.

Rock on Julia!

I truly apprecaite your expression of intolerance with the "insanity" of it all here. I applaud you for telling it like it is - save the niceties for family gatherings.

I fully agree that it all starts with taking responsibility for ourselves. The change begins with you, every "you" out there.

If America is to become the strongest and healthiest nation in the world (which is a nicer way of saying, "and not be bankrupted by obesity related medical costs...") each and every person must grab thier ass with both hands and take control of thier lives.

Keep it up!
