Diet, Training, Discipline Help Phelps Win GOLD
Every athlete who competes at the highest level knows that there is no room for error. Be it diet, the training regimen, or the mental focus - i.e. visualization - that must be adhered to each day, it is all equally important. If you had a chance to see the first even where Michael Phelps took Gold in the 400 IM, it was quite a site. To think how intense and difficult the preparation is can really be a motivator for those of us who just strive for a "normal" fit and healthy body. Even the (U.S.) President was on hand to root for Phelps. Here's more from The Guardian --
U.S. swimming sensation Michael Phelps demolished his own world record on Sunday to win the first of what he hopes will be an unprecedented eight golds in a single Olympics. His splash of speed lit up the Games, eclipsing worries over security, heat, air pollution and intolerance of dissent that marked the Olympic build-up and lingered into the first day. Listening to hip-hop on headphones as he walked to the blocks, Phelps went on to win the 400 metres individual medley at China's futuristic and full-to-capacity Water Cube. His time was 1.41 seconds quicker than a previous best he set just six weeks ago. He was watched by U.S. President George W. Bush and cheered by flag-waving compatriots and thousands of Chinese.
"I'm pretty happy with that ... it was all adrenaline," said Phelps, calling a thumbs-up by Bush in the stands "pretty cool". Even if Phelps wins only half his eight race competitions, he will hold more Olympic gold medals than any other athlete. But the 23-year-old looks in great shape to at least match his six golds at Athens in 2004 and then beat Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven wins at one Games. read on...
Medifast
If you are interested in any meal plan, Medifast is one worth considering. We have started recommending Medifast 5 and 1 plan starting with a small group at a time. The weight loss results have been fantastic. Like our Weight loss plan that is a doctor approved diet plan, this is a healthy choice. A diet and weight loss plan that is endorsed by healthy dieters around the world, you can always lose weight, but are you doing it the healthy way?Juice Plus Vitamin
With this supplement, many say it is a concentrated fruit juice powder or vegetable powder, referring to the final Juice Plus+ product that is put into a capsule. You can also use Medifast to support your dietplans. Their meals are good for this purpose. Oprah's Dr. Mehmet Oz knows that a diet is temporary but a healthy lifestyle with a healthy diet plan in place, well, that is for good. Even Juice plus+ is made from the juice from an orange and many other fruit juices, that gives it a lot of nutrition when a cup of results and lemon is added - that doesn't make sense! Add fountain water without some breville and juice fountain, although if you had a tablespoon of the fruit juice powder, then adding more juice can be a convenient way to get nutrients but more convenient when it's in a capsule. (that may not make sense either!) You may have read a juice plus review that is similar to acai juice plus. When I can't have those healthy and fresh products, I use juice plus vitamin, and juice nsa plus is a way to get it. If you are a distributor juice plus, then the gummies juice plus is juice plus supplement to look into. The juice plus scam that we see does not hold much credence - just a bitter old man that has nothing better to do with his time, but it is a problem.Medifast Diet
If you are interested in any meal plan, Medifast is one worth considering. We have started recommending Medifast 5 and 1 plan starting with a small group at a time. The weight loss results have been fantastic. The Vice Busting Diet Plans couple with Medifast really provides the tools and motivation to reach an optimal weight.Comment: It is a life of dedication to fitness, technique, style, form, and just overall perfection that leads to winning a Gold in the Olympics. For most of us, we don't need to put in the hours of dedication each day in order to realize a fit or slimmer figure. We just have to avoid the foods and beverages that contribute to the weight. You won't find these athletes eating fast food burgers and fries, no matter what any commercial may lead you to believe...including Coca-Cola who is sponsoring the athletic games--isn't that an irony?
When I read that Phelps does eat some junk food I was shocked. I guess if you are training like he is, it's a safe bet to make in that McDonald's won't make him "fat" but he is like most young people--not thinking about the big picture and what food like that does to his overall health. Sure, it may seem like it is not harming him, but what IF without any crap in his body, he swam even faster? His records could last even longer in history before being broken!?
It's like this, you can buy a Mercedes--like my husband just did for his midlife crisis gift, and choose to fill the tank with unleaded fuel, the cheapest gas at the pump. OR you can choose to treat your high performance ride like it is meant to be and only fill it with premium gasoline. To the person watching you drive down the street (or fans watching you swim!) it isn't going to make a bit of difference which you choose. But, the engine knows. The engine is going to respond differently overtime based on the choices YOU make about what to put in it. One day, the negative side-effects of poor choices are bound to show up one way or another. Life is just like that.
Choose what you put in your body wisely and stick with the simple stuff, you know what I'm talking about. You'll be feeling great and looking great. And hey, maybe you'll even aspire to go out and win a Gold.

I don't think humans can afford to view health from a point of view like that Ashley. To say he "deserves" to eat garbage food because he is dedicated to training, isn't logical. He deserves the very best nutrition possible because his body needs it due to his dedication to this training.
We put more care and concern into what goes in a NASCAR engine than we do a human althlete. A driver would NEVER allow ANYONE to put crap in his fuel tank, NEVER. He knows his engine would NOT function optimally and would likely break down, but humans? We say that we "deserve" the worst possible fuel source when functioning at the highest level?
That's when you need the best even more! Hell, sit on the couch eating and watching TV all day? THAT person deserves a Big Mac and fries, along with the slow death from obesity related causes that they are going to earn from their well deserved poor eating habits.
But a world class champion athlete? He deserves lobster, beef tenderloin, mangos, kiwi, etc!

yeah, i say with all the dedication he has to his training, he deserves- at the least- to eat what he wants!

Phelps has said in interviews before that he consumes 10,000-12,000 calories a day, inluding fast food and other junk. Of course he is disciplined with his training itself, but apparently he has trouble keeping weight on. And I don't doubt that, he's a 23 year old guy that is constantly going through intense work outs. He apparently eats tons of pasta, pizza, brakfast foods and says 'bring it on!' in reference to fast food. I'm jealous.

well, I really hope he does get the 8 medals! but I would never be able to live by such a strict regime as he has to, to remain in shape...
