The Goverenment Waist Initiative; cut Obesity rates and end Dieting forever!
Economy..... Eschonomy! Really, I am about sick and tired of all of the gloom and doom coming out of Washington and on every news channel. If you listen to what they are saying, you may actually think, or worse hope; that the World is going ending soon.
We can all agree that the economy is in terrible shape and I think we can agree that so much of it is beyond our control but one thing that we should agree on is that there is ONE issue that we can control and that IF we controlled it we could free up 100's of BILLIONS of dollars in expenditures that in my opinion are unnecessary expenses--and that is the money wasted on Obesity related issues; from increased health insurance, employeer costs to cover workman's compensation, lost wages, health care costs, our personal expenditures...If someone actually discussed how much money is spent dealing with Obesity people would be shocked, likely outraged and surely demand change.
Obesity is such a HUGE drain on government expenditures that we can no longer it by and think it is only the problem of the obese individual; it affects all of us, even the size 0 liberals in Hollyweird. It is affecting everyone's bottomline, not just those with big bottoms.
I am sure that there are some economists that would disagree with me, but it is my belief that if we proactively go about ending Obesity we would save enough money to completely fund the Wall Street/Banking Bailout Bill!---therefore, this is a debate worth having!
This is going to seem radical to many, but I propose that our next President impose my Government Waist Initiative Plan! (and while its obvious many don't agree on WHO that should be, this is NOT the forum for that discussion so I will keep my opinion to myself but to give a clue as to where I stand, there's only ONE Mc that I abhore and it is McDonalds!)
Imagine how much money could be saved with such an initiative, it would be bold, we would certainly ask sacrifices of our citizens but the return for those sacrifices would be more than worth it.
The mandates of the Government Waist Initiative would be:
1. Each American must drink 1/2 their body weight in fluid ounces of water each day, in small sips throughout their day from when they rise until bedtime.
2. Each American must increase their fresh fruit and vegetable consumption, eating more fresh RAW fruits and vegetables. The optimal goal is to consume 9-13 servings per day.
3. EVERY portion of food will be restricted to that of the size of the individuals fist. Every meal should have a fist sized portion of protein (not fried chicken, Big Macs or fettucine alfredo!) such as lean meats, tofu, egg whites, along with a fist sized serving of a starchy carb such as oatmeal, a sweet potato, and fresh fruit and or a vegetable. EVERY meal!
4. Fast Food should be prohibited unless ordering WATER, lean protein dishes such as the salad offerings w/ grilled meat and low fat dressings. I certainly do not want to put fast food establishments out of business as that would have a huge negative impact on the economy but we must revamp their menues and eliminate the very foods that are largely to blame for the obesity pandemic. I think they can still be profitable, employee the large workforce they do AND help reverse obesity--we just have to MAKE them do it!
5. Children must do one hour of cardio vascular ACTIVE PE every day. NOT playing checkers or hitting pinatas but REAL old fashioned PE class--running, jumping, riding, playing. After school, children should be in sports, dancing, gymnastic classes, riding bikes, doing homework--ANYTHING but playing video games or watching television!
6. NO ONE should consume any beveraged that are laced with high fructose corn syrup. We don't need to further wait to get them OUT of our schools--what was Clinton thinking when he left the Cola Cartel dictate that they would get around to removing them from our schools in around 2011?! Do it NOW!!! The use of high fructose corn syrup has gone up 1000% in the past 20 years, Obesity has gone up 100% in the same time. Do we really need MILLIONS more dollars spent studying the correlation of the two? Just ban the shit and let's be done with it. Case closed.
I am totally for some reforming of causes and issues surrounding the Obesity crisis. We have to do it, literally our lives are at stake and our economy at risk. This is one initiative that will solve two big concerns in our nation.
Call your representatives in Washington today, call your candidates running for office and tell them that you are for the Havey Obesity Bill/ Government Waist Initiative and that if they want your vote they have to be for it too!
The Government Waist Initiative will cost little to implement (ok, PE for every child may cost some money but who is going to have the balls to go against me on The Factor or Larry King and debate that we DON'T need it?) I think out of the 900$ Million dollars in pork barrel spending that one presidential hopefull asked for, there wasn't ONE dollar towards ending Obesity, not ONE yet it's an issue that afffects more Illinoisians and Americans directly than any other issue there is. ANY other issue.
I just don't get politics or goverment. I don't get it and don't like it, but IF someone takes up my bill--they would have my vote and my gratitude for actually doing something to try to reverse a condition that takes the lives of 300,000 Americans each year and contributes directly to the deaths of another 2.6 million Americans--American's who many of which are likely on disability or not contributing as much as they could be if their lives weren't being comprehmised by obseity to the taxes paid by workers.
My friends, I hope you rally around this cause. It needs you, I need you, and your obese neighbor needs you.
