Who gives a "rat's ass"?
I have never really understood what that phrase means but according to a recent article in Medical News Today, McDonalds may want to start giving a "rat's ass" about the health of the people consuming their food!
The article reports what we have long known here at The Health & Wellness Institute; that fast food is NOT a health food: it can lead to Obesity which invites a host of health problems and now we are learning it may be a cause of Alzheimer's! In the study, "mice that were fed a diet rich in fat, sugar and cholesterol for nine months developed a preliminary stage of the morbid irregularities that form in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. The study results, published in a doctoral thesis from the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet (KI), give some indications of how this difficult to treat disease might one day be preventable."

I particularly like this quote: "how this difficult to treat disease might one day be preventable"
OK, I may not be a doctor, lawyer or nutritionist but here's my take on it:
We KNOW that Fast Food ala McDonalds and other such disgusting garbage mascarading as "food" WILL make you FAT, could lead you to Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease and now "might" lead to Alzhiemer's Disease so you don't have to WAIT for "one day" to prevent these yourself from "getting" these horrible ailments, you can opt right NOW to STOP eating "FAST" food and I promise you that you WILL get much healthier really fast! Depending on your genetics and other factors you still may end up getting certain illnesses but one's that are preventable? It's not likely!
This past week we had a death in the family, a relatively new family member who is related to me by marriage on my husband's side of the family. The man married my brother-in-law's sister a short THREE weeks ago. The griefing bride new that he had a host of health problems but lovingly and devotely entered into marriage with him accepting both the good and the bad, in sickness and in health. How tragic that they only had 3 weeks of marriage, their love was a beautiful one that could have, and should have lasted a lifetime. However, both of them made choices as to how to live their lives and one choice was to be Obese. His choice led him to diabetes which cost him a leg, heart disease and ultimately his life.
The story is unfortunately all too common. Loveable fat person dying before their time. Save the hate mail.
I am in no way mocking the man or any man in his situation who dies an early death, what I am saying is that our choices along the way in life have a great impact on how and when we die. I would like to live a very long and productive healthful life and I think that everyone else does as well.
Yet we keep eating McDonalds.
We keep drinking Coca-Cola.
We keep eating Snickers.
We keep going for seconds.
We keep watching hours of television a night and claim to have 'no time exercise'.
We keep "getting" Alzheimer's.
We keep "getting" Obese.
We keep "getting" Diabetes.
We keep thinking it has nothing to do with what we do.
What toll will you, or worse those you will leave behind have to pay for your choices?

PS: A Big Mac, Fries and a diet Coke isn't a healthful meal! LOL

Great post, I really don't understand why people continue to eat like that even with hundreds of studies showing us we're going to die earlier if we eat like that.
We're too obsessed with the short-term unfortunately.
